Election a Win for Local 2803
The Local was very successful in our efforts to help elect members to the Board of Supervisors who are willing to listen to and address our issues. The candidates the Local supported are very thankful for all of the help they received from the members of the Local. Of the five candidates the Local endorsed the following four were elected to the Board: Marleen Durfee, Dan Gecker, Art Warren, and Jim Holland.
While attending several of the victory parties the night of the elections, these candidates assured us that we will have a seat at the table and they are going to work with us to address our issues (staffing, pay and health care). I do not think this Local has ever been as successful as we were in this election and the reason we were is the hard work many members put towards these efforts.
I want to thank everyone who assisted and you should do the same. The efforts of the several key members led to this great success. The Nomination Committee Chairman Dave Hammond’s dedication to this political process has been immeasurable. Other members of this Committee were Trip Georgel, Mike Oakes, Nic Smith, and Steve Earhart. The Committee’s efforts to choose quality candidates were instrumental to our success.
The following members assisted during the campaigns and worked the polls during Election Day: Dave Hammond, Mike Oakes, J. P. Jones, Scott Spencer, Mike Vozar, Landon Harris, Mike Martell, Amy Hammond, Anthony Batten, Jeff Logan, Carl Coppedge, Brian Ficara, Kathy Kahlson, Matthew Altenbach, John Gannon, Nich Romano Frank Chinn, Melanie Calahan ,Rodger Warden, Bryan Swanson, Kurt Muller, Mike Abbott, Spencer Campbell, and John Jacobson. I may have missed a couple of names, but I am glad there was so much help that it makes it hard to remember everyone. All of the members who assisted took time away from there family, part-time work and hobbies without compensation from the Local. I hope to show all members of the Local that their sacrifice and willingness to assist towards a goal to improve benefits and working conditions will be worth it. The reason for the Local’s success is because of the hard work of these members.
More information will be released in the near future regarding the direction in which the Local is headed and what our priorities should be. Please plan to attend the December Union meetings so you too can contribute towards what our priorities will be.
Strength in Unity,
Greg Beasley
