Help needed this Tuesday

Help needed this Tuesday 1-15-19

I need your help this Tuesday, we (Local 2803) need to turn out as many people a possible for the Cancer Walk in Richmond.  We need to send a message to all of Virginia's Legislators that their lack of action supporting us is not acceptable.  We need them to support our Cancer Legislation (SB1030 and HB1804) so if you are diagnosed with occupational cancer you do not have to face the financial burden of treatment on your own.  While were able to win our last cancer claim it should not cost us thousands of dollars and take years to resolve these claims for our members.  This is not a benefit we are fighting for, it is medical coverage for occupational cancer. Legislators often say it is too expensive to cover these claims and I always reply "if you think it's to expensive for the state to cover imagine how it fells for an individual who is fighting for their life."

I know the forecasted weather for Tuesday is not going to be ideal.  I can assure you the cold weather that is forecasted is no different than the reception we receive from most Legislators regarding this issue. Please make an effort to attend if you are not working.  If you have any questions or need additional information that is not listed below please contact one of the following Executive Board members VP Scott Spencer, VP Thomas Brownlee, or VP Matt Buss. Registration is not required to attend but helpful if you want to be included for lunch and to receive the sweatshirt. Below is additional information about the walk additional information and registration can be found at www.VPFF.org.

If you have members who will be driving down on Tuesday for the walk the station address is 411 Commerce Rd Richmond Fire Station 13. Parking is available but limited on the street and we have secured a lot next to the station. Their will be folks there to assist with parking. The weather this weekend may make the sidewalks a little slick so appropriate footwear recommended.

On January 15th, our efforts to raise awareness will be realized in a walk across the Manchester Bridge to the state capital grounds (approximately 1.8 miles).

Walkers are asked to arrive at Richmond Fire Station 13 at 0830. The walk starts at 0900 and will conclude by 1100 and lunch will be served to all members participating. Also, all walkers will be provided  with a sweatshirt.

If you can walk with us, please reply to this email and indicate if you wish to be included in lunch. All local members and their family members are welcome.
