With this new web site, the Executive Board hopes to keep the members of Local 2803 better informed about what the local is working on.
We also hope it will help get more members involved with the local. Part of the responsibility is going to be on the members, along with the shop stewards. We ask the members of the local to check the new web site periodically in order to stay up to date with what is going on. We will no longer be printing and distributing the Unity Newsletter. This information will now be sent to the shop stewards via the web site email system or posted on the main page. By not printing the newsletter and general information the way we used to, we will be saving money. The money saved by not printing the newsletter will pay for this site. This web site is much cheaper than printing the newsletters.
Another thing that would be of big help is for as many members of the local to register on the web site so they can log into the members area. Once you register in the member login area if you would send me a Email to GBeasley@iaff2803.org it will help speed up the process of confirming your membership in the local and allowing you access to the members areas. This will give us access to the member's email addresses so we can email individual members with information or an entire group of members.
Many members have asked why the union does not have the members' email addresses. This is because it used to be too hard to keep strait with the other systems we have utilized in the past. The system on this web site is very similar to Microsoft Outlook. Also, with this web site we have 300 email accounts available for the members use. If you would like one, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. You do not have to have a email address through this web site to recieve the emails sent from this email broadcast system.
This web site has alot of different tools for getting information out to the members of the local. I'm still in the learning process of how all the different systems work on this web site. I will probably be sending out some test messages once members start to register on the web site to see how the different systems work. I hope you will check this web site often and provide me with suggestions of what you would like to see on here. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the web site please contact Greg Beasley by email at GBeasley@iaff2803.org or by telephone at (804) 720-7682 (cell)/(804) 275-0267 (work).
